Meghan made a surprise trip to New York City to support her friend Serena Williams in the 2019 U.S. Open!

“According to The Times, Meghan’s decision to take a quick weekend trip was pretty last-minute, and Prince Harry and their son, baby Archie, stayed at home in Windsor. Meghan reportedly flew out Friday morning and is traveling solo—meaning she didn’t bring any staff with her (but did bring her security team). “It is a last-minute trip,” a source said. “Excited to support her friend, and then come back. The Times reports that Meghan stayed up until 1 a.m. Thursday night to watch Serena play in the semifinal and had been thinking about making the trip to NYC since earlier this week when Serena took home a win at the quarterfinals.”

Meghan has always made sure to be there for Serena cheering on her at important matches. Serena and Meghan have remained loyal friends since their first real hang out in 2014. Meghan wrote on her now-shut-down blog The Tig that the two crossed paths for the first time in Miami during the 2010 Super Bowl. But it would take a few more years for their friendship to blossom.
“We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girlie stuff. So began our friendship,” Meghan revealed on The Tig.
When speaking about their friendship after the game on 4th of July Serena said: “Just having her in general as a friend is great, she’s such a great friend and a great person as well, and always positive, no matter what. So it’s so good to have people like that just to know.”

Meghan was apparently spotted catching a yoga class at Modo Yoga in New York City’s West Village on after she touched down in the country. Modo Yoga is known for their “hot yoga classes in an eco-conscious studio,”.
Yoga has been part of Meghan’s workout regimen since her pre-royal days when she could be seen walking around Toronto with her yoga mat. It’s also a hobby handed down by Doria who teaches yoga classes in Los Angeles.
“My mom is a yoga instructor, and I started doing mommy-and-me yoga with her when I was seven,” Meghan told Best Health Magazine in 2015. “I was very resistant as a kid, but she said, ‘Flower, you will find your practice – just give it time.’ In college, I started doing it more regularly.”
The studio she visited ahead of the U.S. Open was also part of her pre-royal routine. “She has been going to Modo Yoga for many years and tries to do so whenever she is in New York,” another source told People. “It was the perfect remedy for jet lag.”
The official US Open Tennis twitter account shared a video of Meghan, and her nerves for Serena are clearly visible.
Meghan was welcomed by her husband Alexis Ohanian. They had a little chat before the mat.

Vogue’s US editor Anna Wintour was seated behind Meghan. They were seen chatting together – likely discussing Meghan’s work with British Vogue.
The 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu from Mississauga defeated Serena 6-3, 7-5 to win. She is the first Canadian to make it to a final at the U.S. Open, and the only one to win a Grand Slam singles title.
“It’s so hard to explain in words but I’m just beyond grateful and truly blessed,” she said when asked what the moment meant to her.
Meghan stunned in a J Crew denim for the event
The dress boasts western-style stitching on top with two snap-close chest pockets and a snap front. The sleeves are long, and the silhouette falls to about knee-length, finished off with a tie-belt around the waist.

Meghan accessorized her outfit with her Jennifer Meyer turquoise bar earrings.
And two gold dog tag pendants by Los Angeles jewelry brand Mini Mini Jewels. Meghan wore the brand’s popular 14-karat gold necklaces, one bearing her own ‘M’ initial and also one engraved with ‘H’ to represent Harry. Both necklaces featured a diamond accent.

She completed the look with a pair of sunglasses by Victoria Beckham.
Side note: Having supported Serena Williams, Meghan also found time to celebrate another close friend of hers. The duchess’s makeup artist, Daniel Martin, took to Instagram to reveal that Meghan had surprised him for his birthday. Sharing a clip of the most delicious-looking cupcakes, Martin wrote, “I am so overwhelmed by all of your well wishes! 🙊 My sincerest gratitude!! Thanks to everyone for reaching out to me today and Meg, love you friend for surprising me on my special day ❤️ #itsmybirthday.”
