Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lady Cosgrove, hosted the Sussexes this afternoon for a reception after a very busy day! The event was attended by Australians from a broad range of sectors, including charity and community, business and industry, arts and culture, and sport and entertainment.
Harry began the evening greeting the attendies with a very Australian “G’day,” and shared his excitement to be back in Australia alongside Meghan, who he noted was visiting for the first time.
It’s been a long for both Meghan and Harry with people congratulating then om the huge news of Baby Sussex arriving! During the reception Meghan met with singer Missy Higgins and her daughter Luna. Missy told Meghan “Cherish each moment because it goes by so fast. It really does.”
Meghan also had a chat with maths teacher and YouTuber Eddie Woo, who spoke with her about his life with his three children, aged five, seven and 10, saying that it requires “a lot of energy”. His wife Michelle added: “There’s no rest, but it’s so rewarding.” Meghan had a laugh, before telling them: “We’re ready! We’re excited to join the club.”
Harry gave his first speech of the tour during the reception, describing how thrilled he was to return to Australia, and to Meghan to the country for the first time.
“We genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby, whether it’s a boy or a girl,” he said, looking at the Duchess with pride.
It is great to be back in Australia,” he said. “And especially even more so as this is my wife’s first visit here, so I’m very excited to show her this incredible country of yours, perhaps not Kangaroo Flats military training area in Darwin though!
You’ll also notice we had a roof on our boat earlier after last year’s downpour. Luckily Sydney’s sun is shining today so thank you for organising the weather.”
For the reception, Meghan switched things up from her earlier look, opting for a forest green Pleated Button-Up Shirt Dress from the Spring/Summer 2019 Collectio by American designer Brandon Maxwell.
