Meghan and Harry paid a visit to hit musical Hamilton in London.
Meghan and Harry were all smiling upon arrival
A video from the arrival:
Meghan and Harry were introduced to the show’s award-winning creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and his wife Vanessa Nadal
From USMagazine:
“Lin-Manuel Miranda created the award-winning stage production of Hamilton: An American Musical, but he still felt anxious when Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan saw the show.
“I’ve had a lot of really cool experiences with Hamilton; that was a really cool one. I was a little nervous sitting next to the sixth great-grandson of King George III, who we are lampooning on stage, but he had seen the show before, actually. He and Meghan had seen it before they saw it with us, so I was confident we would have a fun night. And they were wonderful and very sweet and down to earth. They were really nice and normal, as normal as a royal couple can be. We talked about how hard it is to plan a wedding. Our experiences were pretty different, but it’s still a pain in the ass to plan a wedding!”
During their talk, Meghan brought up her friend Abigail Spencer and how much she loves Hamilton adding that “we were born on the same day, same year, so we are so close”. A video from the meeting:
The event was held to benefit Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale. Co-founded by Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, Sentebale which means “forget me not,” supports children affected by HIV and AIDS in Botswana and Lethoso. Over the past almost two decades, Harry and Seeiso have drawn attention to the urgent issue of children who live in extreme poverty or have HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and the importance of delivering essential life skills and psychosocial support to help combat this crucial problem.
The Chairman of Sentebale, Johnny Hornby said:
‘We are delighted to partner with HAMILTON for what promises to be a very special evening, raising funds and awareness for our work with children and young people affected by HIV in southern Africa.”
Meghan and Harry also spent time speaking to workers from Sentebale
The charity event was Meghan’s third time watching the show. She first watched the musical on Broadway in NYC with her friend Priyanka Chopra in September 2016. Less than two years later, she caught a version in London while visiting Harry.
Meghan and Harry took their seets:
They were seated next to Lin-Manuel Miranda and his wife Vanessa.
From Hello!:
”Lin-Manuel told us: “It was pretty wild. It was pretty surreal to see that the Duchess knows the lyrics a little better than I do! She was sitting next to me and mouthing along.” He added: “I am playing Hamilton again in Puerto Rico in a few weeks and I really was like, oh man I’ve got to brush up on my lyrics. So, it was a joy and they’re wonderful.””
Hamilton is an American Musical and a sung-and-rapped-through musical founded by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The story follows the remarkable life story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
From RadioTimes:
“Hamilton was an orphan, born out of wedlock to a half-British/half-French mother, who died when he was about 11, and a Scottish father, who had long since abandoned them. His mother was still married to another man, and her estranged husband emerged after her death to seize her estate, leaving young Alexander penniless.”
After the shoe Harry took to the stage and surprised the audience with a song (haha). You can watch the clip below
Meghan and Harry then got the chance to meet the cast and crew after the performance meeting.
